Few stories echo the resilience and determination embodied by that of Mandy Schulis. A single mom, domestic abuse survivor, and chronic entrepreneur, Mandy has been navigating the entrepreneurial landscape since the tender age of 21. Her journey, marked by challenges, triumphs, and a profound sense of purpose, is a testament to the indomitable spirit that can emerge from facing adversity.
Mandy started her first company, Necessary Elements, in 2008, offering massage services to mainly professional athletes and high net worth entrepreneurs. The company prospered for five years, and Mandy found immense joy in helping her affluent clients – many of whom dealt with stress, anxiety, and chronic pain – find relief. Sadly, at this early stage in her burgeoning career, Mandy would experience a life-changing bout with domestic abuse.
One night, after her ex-husband blacked out, she found herself in a near death situation. Fortunately, in a moment of profound heroism, her six-year-old daughter came to her rescue, jumping on her father’s back and saving her mom’s life. This moment would prove to be pivotal for Mandy in the long run.
She continued pursuing massage and neuromuscular therapy for several years, until a lingering pain in her right hand, along with the arrival of her newborn son, would prove to be overwhelming. Eventually, she called it quits. Luckily, while shutting down her practice, she had the foresight to reach out to some of her clients to book one-on-one coaching sessions.
“As an empathic healer and Reiki master, I’ve always sought to create an environment of safety and comfort for my clients,” explains Schulis. “Many of them would open up to me during our massage sessions and ‘verbally purge’, which gave me the confidence to pursue a career in Mindset Consulting.”
So much of chronic pain, according to Mandy, is a result of stories literally getting stuck in the body. This realization spurred Mandy to channel her experiences into a mission of helping other entrepreneurial survivors who have struggled to find their voices.
Mandy Schulis and Co. was born in January of last year, allowing Mandy to focus solely on one-on-one sessions, group strategy sessions, and speaking engagements. She founded the company in the belief that “by sharing your personal story, metaphorically raising your hand, and saying, ‘I lived this, I overcame this,’ you can unlock the words that will attract the people you want to hire and also earn you more business.”
Her most recent venture, a groundbreaking podcast titled “Unfiltered,” aims to provide a platform for women entrepreneurs and allow them to share their authentic stories. These are women who, like Mandy, have reached a certain level of success and understand the power of truth in connecting with an audience. After receiving rave reviews and a strong listenership after just two episodes, she expects the podcast to blow up in 2024.
Mandy Schulis’ journey has been marked by highs and lows – from shutting down her business, to rebranding and pulling off a remarkable pivot in 2023. Unsatisfied with monetary gain alone, she has also started a non-profit initiative called “Love Me More,” which empowers women to start their own businesses through mentorships and story strategy, using their personal narratives to fuel their success.
